Internment Camps
After watching the Nanking film I actually realized how the Americans could be so racist against the japanese because of all of the actions they participated in. However I do not think that he Americans should have put them into camps. I find that to be absolutely degrading and unfair because these were American Japanese. And I feel that putting them into camps is going against what we're fighting for later on, and that was getting the Jewish out of camps in Germany. And although we did not burn and work them to death, it is still the idea of isolating one race. And that is not what we are about in America. I think that these camps were a complete mistake and I do not understand why we would do that, even if they were our enemies. They are still people, real people.

I think that part nof the reason for seperating them from the rest of America was to protect them somewhat. When the Japanese were finally allowed to go back to their houses and stores many of them found them terroized and burned down. Many Americans were furious about what happened at Pearl Harbor and wanted to get back at the Japanesse so they did the easiest thing possible and attacked anything that was Japanese in their country. By seperating the Japanese from the rest of the furious Americans it kind of protected them until all the rage was settled.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your stance completely. Although, I honestly don't believe that they had any reason to be racist against the japanese seeing as how the American Japanese people had nothing to do with the attack on pearl harbor.
ReplyDelete@ gunnar: That's a really interesting thought. I don't think I would have seen it that way. But, that does make a lot of sense.
